Darts is a great pub game. It’s a fun, very social and has been around a very long time. Its enduring popularity reveals it to be a sport that combines talent, skill and even a bit of luck. The game comes from a town called Grimsby in the north of England. The origins of the game dates back to the medieval ages when archery students were instructed to throw shortened arrows at the bottom of empty wine barrels as part of their training.
When the game was first televised it was very true to life. The players were often fat drunks, wearing shirts the size of marquees. The table beside them was always laden with pints of lager.
Today the pints have gone. The players have turned professional. There's a lot of money to be made in darts now. |
