West End theatre is a popular term for mainstream professional theatre in London. Along with New York’s Broadway, London’s West End Theatre is widely regarded as the best in the English-speaking world. Whatever your tastes are; whether it's comedy, musicals, mystery or thrillers, you'll definitely find a show to suit you. You're guaranteed to see some top class performances from world-class actors, writers, directors, and comedians.
Most of the productions are big budget, often with world famous actors. Therefore, entry fees can be quite high. You'll pay up to 60 Pounds for top price tickets and even more if you go through an agency. Having said that, you can still find cheap shows, depending on the day of the week and the popularity of the show etc. The cheapest is around 9/10 pounds.
If you go to the ticket booth in Leicester Square, you'll be able to get half price tickets for most shows, except for the current popular musicals like Lion King and some plays. Most theatres offer concessions to students, OAP and unemployed, normally one hour before the performance.
The West End does have quite a lot of musicals, but there are still some excellent plays featuring performances from superb actors and actresses. It's still incredibly diverse.
Theatres are open from Mondays to Saturday and normally on Bank holidays (except Christmas day). Most are closed on Sunday |
