Although often thought of as a very “English” sport, Polo actually originated in India. It was brought to Britain by army officers during the 19th century. It's the fastest ball sport in the world.
Polo is played by two teams of four men on horses. The objective is to hit the ball with a large stick, whilst actually on the horse, towards the other team's goal. Simple, really. The pitch is 300 yards long by 160 yards wide. |
