Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, is an idyllic country town. It’s everything that is “typically English” and well worth a visit. It is one of the most important tourist destinations in the UK.

William Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest poet and playwright of all time. Responsibly for such classics as Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet (amongst many others), his legend lives on even 400 years after his death. Even in his own time, before he became famous, the town of Stratford upon Avon was respectful towards him.

The town is steeped in history and culture and has many delightful parks and gardens. It?s set in the beautiful Warickshire countryside on the banks of the stunning Avon River.

Some of the best places to visit include; The Royal Shakespeare Theatre; High Street, where Shakespeare lived - a central street with many excellent shops and Nash House; The Bancroft Gardens, in front of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre; Rother Street, where Stratford's street market takes place along with large variety of entertainment throughout the year and Church Street, where you?ll find the King Edward VI Grammar School ? the place where Shakespeare went to school.
